Overnight ramp closures and lane restrictions are scheduled this weekend on I-80/94 between Kennedy Avenue and the I-65 interchange. Crews will remove overhead signage to prepare for construction and fiber optic upgrades to support new digital gantries.
Drivers can expect the following closures nightly closures and restrictions:
Friday, Sept. 18 and Saturday, Sept. 19
- No access to eastbound I-80/94 from Kennedy Avenue
- No access to eastbound I-80/94 from Cline Avenue
- No access to eastbound I-80/94 from Burr Street
- No access to eastbound I-80/94 from Richard Gordon Hatcher Boulevard/Grant Street
- Eastbound I-80/94 reduced to two lanes from Burr Street to I-65
- One lane closed on westbound I-80/94 from the I-65 interchange to Richard Gordon Hatcher Boulevard/Grant Street
Closures are expected to be in place from 10 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday and 8 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday.

80/94 FlexRoad Project Overview
80/94 FlexRoad is an Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) project to improve traffic flow and safety along Indiana’s busiest interstate corridor. Improvements for the I-80/I-94 Corridor (Borman Expressway) include innovative strategies to improve reliability of the system. The 14-mile corridor extends from the I-65 interchange in Lake County, Indiana to the IL 394 interchange in Cook County, Illinois.
Combining several Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO) strategies will maximize the efficiency of the existing system. Modifications at the Broadway/S.R. 53 interchange and I-65 South exit are expected to improve safety and mobility.
